Let’s hear it for habitat

My small urban backyard has been officially certified a wildlife habitat! I’m thinking my new status lets me off the hook when it comes to meticulous weeding. Right? Works for me.

Taking inventory I found I have 15 trees, dozens of shrubs, many native plants of all sorts, and wildflowers as well as purpose-planted veggies to provide food and shelter for lots of critters. In addition there is a small pond and a birdbath. That qualifies the garden for certification, according to the National Wildlife Federation. I always suspected I was certifiable.
